Gin and Tonic Mussels

Scotland has so many amazing small, craft distilleries you can choose your favourite gin to add to this pick a new one to try. Delicious and refreshing.


  • 1kg┬ámussels
  • 30ml gin
  • 150g cucumber
  • 50ml tonic
  • 15g fresh mint
  • 1 lime (juiced and zested)


  1. Wash and de-beard the mussels.
  2. Heat a saucepan to really hot, then add the mussels and tonic and place the lidon to allow the mussels to steam.
  3. Cook for 2 minutes and, when nearly all of the mussels are open, add the gin.
  4. Cook for 2 minutes.
  5. Add the fresh mint, lime juice and zest and cucumber.
  6. Serve with crusty bread and an ice cold glass of gin and tonic.
